In short
- Official journals publish new laws, implementing acts and guidance every working day.
- Manual monitoring is slow, depends on a few people and stops at the languages they read.
- Unicorn Intelligence reads official journals with open feeds every day, filters them on your profile and summarizes each item in your language with a link to the official text.
- You receive a weekly briefing every Monday and alerts on new items.
- It is an information tool: the legal assessment of each rule remains with your team.
Legal and compliance teams are expected to know about new rules before they apply. In practice that often means a few people reading newsletters and official journals in the time left between other tasks.
This article explains why automated monitoring helps, what it should cover and how to set it up.
Why manual monitoring falls short
- Volume. Official journals publish every working day, and most items are not relevant to you.
- Languages. A company active in several countries needs to follow texts in several languages.
- Continuity. Monitoring stops when the person who does it is on holiday or busy.
- Evidence. It is hard to show later what was seen, when and by whom.
Missing a rule can mean a late product change, a missed reporting deadline or a contract clause that no longer works.
What to monitor
Start from what your company does and where. A useful profile combines:
- countries or areas where you sell, buy, employ people or hold licenses;
- sectors that match your products and services;
- keywords for the topics you follow, such as data protection, product safety, energy or financial reporting.
Regulated companies often have specific frameworks to follow. For example, financial entities in the European Union must manage ICT third party risk under Regulation (EU) 2022/2554 (DORA). Monitoring helps the team see new acts and guidance; the assessment remains a legal task.
How Unicorn Intelligence does it
The service reads official journals and authorities with open feeds every day, such as EUR-Lex, the Federal Register, legislation.gov.uk, Gazzetta Ufficiale, Légifrance (JORF), BGBl and BOE, and other official journals.
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| Collect | New items are fetched from the official sources on schedule |
| Filter | Items are matched to your countries or areas, sectors and keywords |
| Summarize | Each relevant item gets a summary in your language |
| Link | Every summary links to the official text, with source and date |
| Deliver | Weekly briefing every Monday, alerts by email or signed webhook, and access by API |
Summaries and translations are produced with models running on Cloudflare Workers AI. Your data is not used to train models.
Your language, the original text
A summary in your language lets your team decide in seconds whether an item matters. The decision on what a rule requires is always made on the official text, which is one click away.
The service works in 16 languages, so a team in Milan and a team in São Paulo can follow the same sources, each in its own language.
A simple weekly routine
Automated monitoring is more useful with a light routine around it. A common pattern looks like this:
- On Monday one person reads the briefing and marks the items that may matter.
- Each marked item goes to an owner: legal, compliance, product or finance.
- The owner reads the official text and decides whether action is needed.
- Decisions and deadlines are recorded in your own tracker, with the link to the official text.
The routine takes minutes when nothing relevant was published, and it makes sure that nothing relevant waits for the next quarterly review. Alerts cover the urgent cases between two briefings.
How to set it up
- Sign in with your business email or a Google or Apple account: $50 of free usage to get started, no card required.
- Add the countries or areas you want to follow.
- Choose your sectors and add keywords.
- Choose the language for summaries and briefings, and how you want alerts.
- Read the first briefing on Monday and refine the keywords if needed.
What it costs
With pay as you go each country or area costs $900 per month, charged every week, with no monthly fee. Subscriptions cover 3 or 10 countries or areas, and regulatory monitoring is also part of several packages. The current prices are on the pricing page.
What monitoring does not do
Monitoring tells you that something was published and what it is about. It does not tell you what you must do. Unicorn Intelligence is an information tool: legal assessment and obligations remain with your company.
