In short
- Private companies publish little, so information is spread across registers, lists, news and websites.
- A dossier collects it in one document with the source and date of every item, ready for your onboarding or supplier file.
- Unicorn Intelligence builds the dossier in minutes, as PDF and JSON, in the language you choose.
- It includes a sanctions check on the company and on the names found.
- It is an information tool: the decision to work with a company remains with you.
Before signing with a new supplier, distributor, customer or acquisition target, someone usually spends hours searching registers, lists and news. The result is often a few screenshots in an email, without dates or sources.
This article explains what a useful dossier contains, when you need one and how to get it in minutes.
Why due diligence on private companies is hard
Listed companies publish annual reports and filings. Private companies do not, and the information that exists is scattered: a business register in one country, an identifier in another database, a news article in a foreign language, a website that changed last month.
Teams end up repeating the same searches for every new counterparty, with results that depend on who did the work and on how much time they had.
When you need a dossier
- Onboarding a new supplier, especially in another country.
- Accepting a business customer that you must identify (KYB, know your business).
- Signing a distributor, agent or reseller who will represent you.
- Evaluating a partner, a startup or an investment target.
- Reviewing an existing counterparty after a warning sign, such as a news item or a late payment.
Anti money laundering rules in many countries require regulated companies to identify their business customers. Supply chain laws and large buyers increasingly expect checks on suppliers. In both cases a documented file with source and date is what auditors usually ask for.
What a good dossier contains
| Section | What it answers | Sources in the Unicorn Intelligence dossier |
|---|---|---|
| Identity | Does the company exist, where and under which identifiers? | GLEIF LEI, SEC EDGAR and open European business registers |
| Sanctions | Is the company, or a name found, on a sanctions list? | The same lists as the screening service, shown on the status page |
| News and adverse media | Has anything relevant been reported recently? | News sources in several languages |
| Funding and valuations | How is the company financed? | Funding rounds and reported valuations from Unicorn Watch |
| Web presence | Is the online presence consistent with what the company claims? | Public websites and domains |
| Risk signals | What deserves a closer look? | Each signal explained and linked to its source |
Every item carries its source and date, so a reviewer can open the original in one click.
How it works
- Sign in with your business email or a Google or Apple account: $50 of free usage to get started, no card required.
- Enter the company name and, if you have them, its website, country or LEI. More details mean a more precise match.
- Choose the language of the dossier.
- In a few minutes the dossier is ready in the dashboard as PDF and JSON, and by API if you use it.
The PDF is ready to attach to your onboarding or supplier file. The JSON lets you load the same data into your own systems.
Dossier plus daily screening
A dossier is a picture on one day. To know if something changes later, add the company and the names you care about to daily sanctions screening. You are alerted when a new match appears, without ordering a new dossier.
Making dossiers part of your process
A dossier is most useful when it is ordered at the same moment for every counterparty of the same type, not only when someone remembers. Many teams link it to a clear trigger:
- a new supplier above a spending threshold you define;
- a new business customer in a country you consider higher risk;
- a distributor or agent before the contract is signed;
- an existing counterparty after a warning sign.
Because the dossier also comes as JSON, the same trigger can order it by API from your onboarding or procurement tool, and the PDF can be saved in the counterparty file automatically.
What it costs
With pay as you go a dossier costs $690, with no monthly fee. A single dossier can also be bought for $490, one-time payment, from the dashboard. Teams that need many dossiers can choose a monthly plan or a package that includes them. The current prices are on the pricing page.
Limits to keep in mind
A dossier uses official and open sources. It does not include information that is not public, and it does not replace checks that your law or your procedure require, such as the verification of beneficial owners on the sources you are obliged to use.
Unicorn Intelligence is an information tool: the decision to work with a company, and your legal obligations, remain with you. The complete guide explains how the dossier fits with the other services.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a dossier take?
A few minutes. You enter the company name and, optionally, website, country or LEI, and the dossier appears in the dashboard as PDF and JSON.
Which sources does the dossier use?
Open registers such as GLEIF LEI, SEC EDGAR and open European business registers, the sanctions lists of the screening service, news, funding rounds and reported valuations from Unicorn Watch, and public websites. Each item shows its source and date.
Can the dossier be written in our language?
Yes. You choose the language when you order it, among the 16 languages of the service.
Is a dossier enough for KYB?
It supports your file with documented information, but it does not replace the checks your law or your procedure require. Decisions and legal obligations remain with your company.
How much does a dossier cost?
With pay as you go $690 per dossier; a single dossier bought from the dashboard costs $490; plans and packages include a number of dossiers per month. The pricing page always shows the current prices.
Unicorn Intelligence is an information tool. Decisions and legal obligations, including sanctions compliance, due diligence and tender participation, remain with the customer.
