Free sanctions check of a company name, no sign-up: how to run a free OFAC check online

Short answer: Unicorn Intelligence has a free name check at intel.unicornprivate.com/free-check/ that tests one company or person against the official sanctions lists (OFAC, EU, UK, UN and others) with no sign-up: you type the name, optionally pick a country, and in a few seconds you see a green, yellow or red light and which official lists match. Nothing is saved. You can also search each government list for free on its own website, one list at a time.
Key definitions
OFAC check: a search of a name in the lists of the US Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control, mainly the SDN list and the non-SDN lists.
Name screening: comparing a name, including close spellings and aliases, with the entries of one or more sanctions lists.
Possible match: a list entry similar to the name searched. It needs a review with other identifiers before any conclusion.

Step by step with the free name check
- Open the free check at intel.unicornprivate.com/free-check/ (available in 16 languages).
- Type the name of the company or person, as written in the contract or invoice.
- Choose the type and, if you know it, the country. The country reduces false matches on common names.
- Read the light. Green: no match found on the lists checked. Yellow: possible match, worth a closer look. Red: strong match on an official list.
- Check the lists shown. For a yellow or red light, open the official list named in the result and compare dates, addresses and registration numbers.
- Record the check. Note the date, the name searched and the result.

Limits of a single-name check
The free check covers one name at a time, up to 10 checks a day from the same network. It does not monitor the name afterwards: lists change without a fixed calendar, so a green result is valid on the day of the search. For a whole list of customers or suppliers, the free list test below checks every name in one go.
Checking a whole list for free
Unicorn Intelligence also runs a free test of a whole list: you sign in with an email, upload a CSV or Excel file, paste the names or connect QuickBooks, Xero, Sage or a CRM, and you get a risk map with how many possible matches there are, on which lists and in which countries. It is an informational tool: decisions and legal obligations remain the company's.

FAQ
Is there a free sanctions check for a company name with no sign-up?
Yes. The Unicorn Intelligence free name check tests one company or person against OFAC, EU, UK, UN and other official lists with no account and nothing saved. Government sites such as the OFAC Sanctions List Search are also free, one list at a time.
How can I run a free OFAC check online?
Use the official OFAC Sanctions List Search on the US Treasury website, or the Unicorn Intelligence free name check, which includes the OFAC SDN and non-SDN lists together with the EU, UK and UN lists in one search.
Is the name I type saved?
No. The free check runs the name once against the lists and does not store it.
Does a green result mean the company is safe?
It means no match was found on the lists checked on that day. Owners, aliases and new listings can change the picture, so checks should be repeated and owners checked too.
How many free checks can I run?
Up to 10 a day from the same network. For more names, the free test of the whole list accepts files and connections to accounting software and CRMs.
Can I check a whole list of customers for free?
Yes. After signing in with an email you can upload a file or connect your software and get a free risk map of the whole list.
